Hijri date today & calendar converter
Today in Morocco is 12 Joumada al-Oula 1448 AH — Friday, 23 October 2026.
Use the converter below to translate any date between the Gregorian and Islamic (Hijri) calendars. Dates follow the Moroccan lunar calendar, based on the official rukyat (moon sighting), which can differ by a day from other countries.
Conversion uses the tabular Umm al-Qura calendar. Morocco fixes its months by moon sighting (rukyat), so the official Ministry of Habous date shown on the pages can differ by ±1 day.
About the Hijri calendar
The Hijri calendar is a lunar calendar of twelve months in a year of 354 or 355 days. It began in 622 CE, the year of the Prophet Muhammad's migration (Hijra) from Mecca to Medina. Because it is lunar, Hijri dates move roughly 11 days earlier each Gregorian year, which is why Ramadan and the two Eids shift through the seasons.
In Morocco the start of each month is confirmed by the Ministry of Habous through moon sighting, so the official Moroccan date can occasionally differ by a day from calculated calendars used elsewhere.
