Geography & context
Bouskoura (بوسكورة) is a fast-growing town south-west of Casablanca, in the Casablanca-Settat region. Located at roughly 33.45° north latitude and 7.66° west longitude, on the back-coastal plateau, it has a mild climate with an oceanic influence: temperate summers, gentle winters. Renowned for its forest and its new residential and golf districts, Bouskoura benefits from prayer times with a moderate seasonal swing.
History & religious heritage
Bouskoura, long an agricultural village on the outskirts of Casablanca, underwent rapid growth in the 21st century with the development of large residential projects, business zones and Casablanca Golf City. Its eucalyptus and pine forest remains a green lung of the conurbation. Religious practice here follows the Maliki rite, common to all of Morocco.
Religious life in Bouskoura
Religious life in Bouskoura sits within the Moroccan Maliki Islamic tradition, carried by recent mosques accompanying the growth of the new districts, alongside the mosques of the old village. The Friday prayer brings together a fast-growing population, mixing settled families and new residents. Ramadan is lived with a strong communal dimension.
Hijri calendar & local specifics
As everywhere in Morocco, the Hijri calendar in Bouskoura follows rukyat, the official sighting of the crescent moon announced by the Ministry of Habous. This method can produce a one-day difference from the Saudi calendar, notably for Ramadan and the two Eids. During Ramadan, Morocco suspends summer time, shifting all prayer times by about an hour for the duration of the month.
Climate & effect on prayer times
The mid-range latitude (~33.4° N) and the proximity of the Atlantic give Bouskoura prayer times with a moderate seasonal swing, almost identical to those of Casablanca. In winter, Fajr is observed around 06:20 and Maghrib around 17:50; in summer, Fajr falls around 04:30 and Isha around 22:00–22:30 depending on the method. The open plateau offers a clear horizon towards the west. The published times follow the Ministry of Habous method.
