Geography & context
El Ksiba (القصيبة) is a small mountain town of the Middle Atlas, in the province of Béni Mellal (Béni Mellal-Khénifra region). Located at roughly 32.57° north latitude and 6.03° west longitude, at about 1,100 metres of altitude amid forests and orchards, it has a mountain climate: cold, sometimes snowy winters, cool summers. Renowned for its cherry trees, its springs and its oak forests, El Ksiba sees its altitude give its prayer times a marked seasonal swing.
History & religious heritage
El Ksiba ('the little kasba') is a Middle Atlas mountain town, long tied to pastoralism, tree-farming and forestry. A green stopover on the heights, it has become a holiday spot valued for its summer coolness, within an Amazigh region. Religious practice here follows the Maliki rite, common to all of Morocco.
Religious life in El Ksiba
Religious life in El Ksiba sits within the Maliki Islamic tradition, in a mountain and Amazigh setting. The mosques of the town and the douars set the rhythm of daily life, and the Friday prayer brings together residents and villagers. Ramadan, often lived in the cold of the altitude, keeps a strong communal dimension.
Hijri calendar & local specifics
As everywhere in Morocco, the Hijri calendar in El Ksiba follows rukyat, the official sighting of the crescent moon announced by the Ministry of Habous. This method can produce a one-day difference from the Saudi calendar, notably for Ramadan and the two Eids. During Ramadan, Morocco suspends summer time, shifting all prayer times by about an hour for the duration of the month.
Climate & effect on prayer times
The altitude of about 1,100 metres and the latitude (~32.6° N) give El Ksiba prayer times with a marked seasonal swing. In winter, Fajr is observed around 06:20 and Maghrib around 17:35, sometimes in the snow; in summer, Fajr falls around 04:15 and Isha around 21:50–22:20 depending on the method. The forests and ridges of the Middle Atlas frame the horizon. The published times follow the Ministry of Habous method.
