Geography & context
Aït Iâzza (أيت يعزى) is a commune of the Souss plain, in the Souss-Massa region (province of Taroudant), near Taroudant, on the N10. Located at roughly 30.42° north latitude and 9.02° west longitude, in an irrigated agricultural plain, it has a hot semi-arid climate: very hot summers, mild winters. A Chleuh town of the Souss valley, Aït Iâzza sees its low latitude limit the seasonal swing of its prayer times.
History & religious heritage
Aït Iâzza is an agricultural locality of the Souss plain, at the gates of Taroudant, long devoted to irrigated crops and rural markets. Religious practice here follows the Maliki rite, within a Chleuh Amazigh setting.
Religious life in Ait Aque
Religious life in Aït Iâzza combines the Maliki Islamic tradition with the Chleuh Amazigh identity of the Souss. The mosques of the town and the douars set the rhythm of daily life, several bearing Amazigh names. The Friday prayer brings together farmers and residents. Ramadan is lived with a strong communal dimension.
Hijri calendar & local specifics
As everywhere in Morocco, the Hijri calendar in Aït Iâzza follows rukyat, the official sighting of the crescent moon announced by the Ministry of Habous. This method can produce a one-day difference from the Saudi calendar, notably for Ramadan and the two Eids. During Ramadan, Morocco suspends summer time, shifting all prayer times by about an hour for the duration of the month.
Climate & effect on prayer times
The low latitude (~30.4° N) gives Aït Iâzza prayer times with a limited seasonal swing, under strong summer heat. In winter, Fajr is observed around 06:35 and Maghrib around 17:55; in summer, Fajr falls around 04:45 and Isha around 21:55–22:20 depending on the method. The open Souss plain offers a clear horizon. The published times follow the Ministry of Habous method.
