Geography & context
Beni Tadjite (بني تجيت) is a small town of the high plateaus of the Oriental, in the province of Figuig, between the eastern High Atlas and the desert. Located at roughly 32.29° north latitude and 3.46° west longitude, in a semi-desert steppe zone along the Guir river, it has an arid continental climate: cold winters, very hot summers. An Amazigh town of the high plateaus, Beni Tadjite sees its latitude and altitude give its prayer times a marked seasonal swing.
History & religious heritage
Beni Tadjite is a town of the eastern high plateaus, on the Guir river, long devoted to pastoralism and the oasis agriculture of the valleys. A staging point on the great steppe expanses, it keeps a strong Amazigh identity. Religious practice here follows the Maliki rite.
Religious life in Beni Tejit
Religious life in Beni Tadjite sits within the Maliki Islamic tradition of the Oriental, in an Amazigh setting. The central mosque and the ksour mosques set the rhythm of daily life. The Friday prayer brings together herders and residents. Ramadan is lived with a strong communal dimension.
Hijri calendar & local specifics
As everywhere in Morocco, the Hijri calendar in Beni Tadjite follows rukyat, the official sighting of the crescent moon announced by the Ministry of Habous. This method can produce a one-day difference from the Saudi calendar, notably for Ramadan and the two Eids. During Ramadan, Morocco suspends summer time, shifting all prayer times by about an hour for the duration of the month.
Climate & effect on prayer times
The latitude (~32.3° N), the plateau altitude and the eastern position give Beni Tadjite prayer times with a marked seasonal swing. In winter, Fajr is observed around 06:20 and Maghrib around 17:30; in summer, under strong heat, Fajr falls around 04:10 and Isha around 21:50–22:15 depending on the method. The open steppe horizon keeps the solar markers sharp. The published times follow the Ministry of Habous method.
Notable mosques
